iPad mini with Retina display could ship this fall with LG panel

iPad mini retina

Recently there have been reports that Apple may not release the next iPad mini with a Retina display due to yield issues with the panels, and that customers would need to wait until 2014 before the smaller Apple tablet brought the high resolution goodness. However, today DigiTimes is changing its tune, reporting that LG has solved the issue, and will be shipping Retina display panels for the iPad mini later this year:

The sources also added that LG is reportedly making new headway in producing Retina panel technology for use in the next-generation iPad mini, and expects to ship about 2-3 million units a month in preparation for Apple's expected October release date.

It should be noted that it was just earlier this week that DigiTimes reported that the Retina iPad mini wouldn't be seen until 2014. To backtrack on that report this quickly would imply that they got news to the contrary. In addition to the iPad mini news, DigiTimes is also still reporting that the fifth-generation iPad will be streamlined with thinner side bezels, lighter, and ship with a faster processor this fall.

Analyst: iPhone 5S delayed to September due to fingerprint sensor issues

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,

iPhone 5S delay

Analysts are reporting that the Apple iPhone 5S is set to be delayed because of problems Apple is having with integrating a fingerprint sensor. The issue seemingly stems from the color coating of the paint and getting it to work with the rumored fingerprint sensor that will be a part of the iPhone 5S. The end result is that the next iPhone, the lower-cost budget iPhone, and the next iPad mini will all launch closer to September rather than the June/July timeframe.

One important note here: Apple has never specified a release date for the iPhone 5S (or even the existence of the device itself,) so to call this a delay seems disingenuous. These delays are really based on the best guesses of the analysts in the first place. In other words, this "delay" really is the analysts saying their guesses were wrong, but not taking the blame.

Report says iPhone 5S coming in August, new iPad & iPad mini in April

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,

iPhone 5S

The big rumor today is that Apple is set to launch the iPhone 5S in August, with a new 5th generation iPad and 2nd generation iPad mini appearing in April. Rene Ritchie at iMore has received reports that Apple is seriously considering the launch of the next iPads next month, including a redesigned iPad, and an iPad mini that may possibly see a Retina display. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5S will carry the same outer design that the iPhone 5 sports, but with a faster A7 processor, and improved camera (we're hearing 13 megapixels.) One rumor also says that the iPhone 5S may also coming in multiple colors, similar to the iPod touch. For now, iPhone 5 users need to rely on services like AnoStyle to get custom colors on their smartphones.

We check in with AnoStyle, the service that custom colors your iPhone or iPad mini, at CES 2013 in this episode. It's impressive, striking, and people stop us and ask about it all the time. Of course, my devices are orange and white, Gear Live colors, no doubt.

AnoStyle review: The iPhone 5 & iPad mini coloring service

AnoStyle review

Many would argue that the iPhone 5 is the most beautiful smartphone hardware from a design aesthetic. The black & slate and white & silver models look great from all angles. That said, some find them a bit boring. After all, Apple sells a colorful array of iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle devices, so what gives with the iPhone 5 (and iPad mini, for that matter?) While Apple is content to provide two color options for its flagship smartphone and mini tablet, there's definitely a growing segment of people who want to be a bit more unique. That's where AnoStyle comes in. AnoStyle will take your iPhone 5 or iPad mini, and pretty it up in one of 12 different colors, making your device stand out from the crowd. We sent a couple of iPhones and an iPad mini in to get the AnoStyle makeover. How did they do? Follow along in our AnoStyle review for the answer.

iPad 5 rear shell leaked, matches iPad mini style?

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Rumors,

iPad 5 leak

This is the alleged iPad 5 back plate, and as you can see, it's similar in design to the iPad mini's rear shell. At the present moment, the leaked parts are not 100% substantiated as actual parts designed by Apple or made by their manufacturing partners, but nothing is ever confirmed until Apple takes the stage and makes an announcement. The report from 9to5Mac also claims that the thinness almost matches the iPad mini, an impressive feat. For many, it is somewhat obvious that Apple would follow the similar trend of the new iPhone 5 and iPad mini design for the 5th generation iPad, as they're Jonathan Ive creations; and as witnessed in the past, this is the time of year when leaked parts that end up being true start appearing.
